May 18, 2022

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin is not fond of expensive PFP NFTs.

Through a Twitter post, he shared a list of his open contradicting thoughts and values, including his dislike for “$3M monkeys” which may pertain to projects like BAYC.

Vitalik Buterin’s Opinion About Crypto and NFTs

Buterin who is a programmer and active crypto community member has been vocal about his opinions about anything connected to the Ethereum blockchain. It is not surprising that he openly expressed his dislike of high-priced PFP NFTs such as BAYC which is Ethereum-based.

According to his post, he doesn’t like many modern financial blockchain applications citing “$3M monkeys” as an example. However, he added that he has a grudging appreciation for its role in the crypto economy and DAO governance.

BAYC Holders Responds to Buterin’s Post

The NFT community didn’t miss the chance to respond to Buterin’s post. BAYC holders in particular defended the famous Bored Apes NFT Project.

Twitter user @just1n_eth replied to Buterin and said the Ethereum co-founder should put some respect for Bored Ape Yacht Club’s name. “The reality is BAYC is culture and is the most successful NFT collection built on ETH. Embrace the community for the success that it is, instead of consistently taking your shots,” he added.

Others took the time to explain the contribution of PFP NFTs to the endless possibilities of blockchain technology. For instance, @BenjiSucher on Twitter said “PFPs will not be the end state for NFTs but it’s what’s currently desirable to the market”. Moreover, he highlighted that the use of PFP will lead to the other more critical applications of NFTs.
