Japanese Social Media Giant Line Launches NFT Marketplace

Japan’s popular social media application Line has released a non-fungible token marketplace called Line NFT specifically available to Japanese users only.

In a statement released Wednesday, the company said that the Line NFT marketplace will allow 90 million Japanese users to buy and sell approximately 40,000 non-fungible tokens.

“A non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace available only in Japan, LINE NFT will offer a wide variety of content, including exclusive NFT videos by Yoshimoto Kogyo Holdings Co. Ltd. called Yoshimoto NFT Theater, NFTs from the classic anime series Patlabor the Mobile Police, and NFTs of other popular characters,” the statement read.

In addition, the platform will feature NFT videos of popular characters such as Gyuunyuu, Usagyuuun!, and Betakkuma.

From April 20, NFTs to commemorate the retirement of athlete Kohei Uchimura and original NFTs by manga artist Yashiroazuki will be available.

The company assured that it will add more NFTs from different genres later by partnering with Line Family services and other companies.

Once purchased, customers can store their collectables in their Line BITMAX Wallet and then send or exchange NFTs with other users via the application.

Line is also one of the most popular messaging applications in Taiwan and Thailand.

It is no secret that Japan is already a high-tech country home to some of the largest video game and entertainment companies.
