A number of Indian political and governmental Twitter accounts were compromised in the past few days, with NFTs (non-fungible tokens) related content posted on their feeds.

Most prominent were the hacks on the Uttar Pradesh government’s account and the office of its chief minister Yogi Adityanath. The chief minister’s account was hacked on Saturday. The profile picture was replaced with bored ape and hundreds of tweets were posted.

The account was later restored and a case was registered in connection with the matter at the Cyber Crime police station in the state capital of Lucknow, as per the tweets by the state government’s official Twitter account.

On Monday, the UP government’s account was hacked and the perpetrators tweeted a link to the  beanzy army” website.

Punjab National Congress was also hit by hackers with a similar link. The linked website contained a statement saying “We have decided to give back to our community by distributing extra airdrop claims to holders of Azuki and other NFTs. Claim your airdrop of BEANZ and become involved with the Azuki ecosystem using the interactive Azuki NFT.”

Reportedly, all Twitter accounts compromised have been restored by now.
